Participating Workshops

Snowbird has a number of places to eat. Your guest services directory will list them, or you can check out their Dining Guide. A few restaurants are in the Cliff Lodge where we'll be staying, but other options--especially things like pizza, burgers, baked goods, snacks, coffee, etc.--can be found just down the hill at the Snowbird Center (by the base of the tram).

Snowbird Center also has a deli/grocery store called General Gritts, and I'm told their sandwiches are a great deal for cash-strapped students. Your rooms should all have small refrigerators in case you want to stock up on things from there.

The Shallow Shaft Restaurant is also recommended (1/2 mile up the Canyon road -- ask at the front desk about a ride). There is a grocery store at the Snowbird Center. Room service is also available.

Remember that a dinner buffet each evening during the meetings is included with your registration, and there will be a pre-meeting reception with hot and cold hors d'oeuvres on Sunday night.

Wireless internet connection is available in rooms of the Cliff Lodge; contact guest services for more information. We will also have wireless internet service in our meeting rooms.

The Cliff Lodge is located at the Snowbird Ski Resort; tickets can be purchased at Level 1 of the Cliff Lodge or at the Snowbird Center. The Alta Ski Area is about 1/2 mile up the canyon road, and a ticket can be purchased that is good for both areas. A bus connects the two areas. (One can normally ski between them as well, but that's not open yet this season.)

Our group rate includes a discount on lift tickets. Just show your meeting badge or a registration card they'll give you at the front desk when you check into your room to get the discount. 1-day price for the tram and chairs is $65 (normally $72). For chairs only it is $56 (normally $62). This is a walk-up price, and advance purchase is not necessary.

If you just want to use the beginning hill (Chickadee), it is free for meeting participants. (You'll still need to rent equipment if you don't have it.)

Snow update: although we started promisingly with snow in early October, November here turned out to be one of the driest on record after being one of the wettest last year. Snowbird is open and has about 20'' of packed powder, but only a limited number of areas and runs are open, and conditions might make it more challenging than usual. We're had new snow since getting here (fresh powder!), and the forecast is for more on the way on Tuesday.

Cross Country Skiing

Inquire at the front desk and at the Albion area at Alta.

Ice Skating

There is an outdoor ice skating rink off Level 1 (skates can be rented).

Snow Tubing

Outside the Cliff parking structure (tubes can be rented).

Swimming and Jacuzzi

There is an outdoor pool and jacuzzi off Level 3.

Cliff Spa

Exercise equipment, massages, aerobics, pool on the roof, etc. There may be an additional fee to use the spa facilities - ask at the front desk. Our group rate also includes a discount on the daily spa fee: only $5 per day gets you access to the exercise equipment, pool, sauna, solarium, etc. (Specific services such as massages have additional fees depending on the service.)

Tram Rides

Single ride tickets are available for non-skiers to take the tram to the top of the mountain and enjoy the spectacular view.

Your hotel room guest services directory lists shops in the Snowbird Complex.
